Overview
Climb above the clouds and into a different world on this unforgettable Teide Summit Sunset Hike. After a scenic cable car ride to 3,550 m, you’ll ascend the final stretch to Spain’s highest peak at 3,715 m, making it easier and more accessible than the strenuous sunrise hike, which requires a full nighttime ascent on foot.
Feel the silence of high altitude, smell the sulfur gases escaping from ancient volcanic vents, and watch the landscape glow during golden hour. On clear evenings, neighboring islands like La Gomera, El Hierro, and Gran Canaria appear above a sea of clouds. Even when the sun dips behind ridges, Teide’s slopes light up in rich golden and crimson hues.
As twilight falls, Teide casts the world’s largest volcanic shadow over the Atlantic—an awe-inspiring sight seen only here. This dormant giant is Spain’s highest peak and ranks among the tallest volcanoes on Earth from base to summit.
The descent follows a stunning 11 km trail down to ~2,400 m, dropping 1,400 m in elevation. Along the way, your licensed mountain guide shares stories of Teide’s eruptions, unique wildlife, and ancient Guanche legends.
This guided expedition is physically demanding (rated Medium to Hard) and ideal for fit hikers aged 15 and above. However, the rewards are extraordinary: once-in-a-lifetime views, a sky full of stars, and the chance to stand atop a UNESCO World Heritage Site at the most magical time of day.
